Training
The education and training you receive during your initial academy is just the start. Wake County wants you to stay up to date and well informed on policy and procedures as well as best practices so we do yearly training for all staff. If you would like more training in other categories speak with a supervisor about other available courses.
Fitness Rooms
Wake County knows that working out is beneficial to both your physical health and mental health. Not only does it keep your body ready for whatever may be ahead, it is also often used as a great way to release stress, increase clarity and assist with one's mental health. You no longer need your gym membership; we have you covered. We have 3 Fitness Rooms available to staff located at the WCDC, PSC and LETC.
Paid Parental Time
Wake County recognizes the importance of family bonding time and offers eligible employees up to 8 weeks of paid parental leave to bond with their new child. This benefit is available to both mothers and fathers and can be taken within the first year of the child's birth or adoption. We believe that this time is crucial for the well-being of both the child and the parent, and we are proud to support our employees in this way.
Retirement Benefits
All Wake County Sheriff's Office employees will be a member of the Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System (LGERS). As a supplemental retirement investment, Wake County Sheriff's Office will automatically invest 5% into your 401k plan. We also offer a 457(b) plan and a Roth IRA for future retirement planning.
Holiday Pay
Wake County provides holiday pay to those who work a holiday, and eight hours to bank and use later for those already scheduled off for a holiday.

Wake County has two Employee Health Centers that help provide services to the employees of Wake County. Employee use these centers for minor medical needs and do not have to miss work or pay a copay to be seen.

Firing Range
Wake County Sheriff's Office operates the Wake County Firearms Education and Training Center. During the day, various law enforcement agencies utilize the range and in the evenings, it is open to the public.
K-9 Deputies
The Sheriff's Office has a large canine team. The K-9s are multifunctional with duties including drug detection and tracking. Our breeds of dogs range from German Shepard to Cocker Spaniel.
