Deputy Sheriff

As a Deputy Sheriff, you will play a vital role in providing law enforcement services for the Wake County Sheriff's Office. Your responsibilities will include maintaining public safety, protecting lives and property, ensuring courtroom security, responding to calls from the public, investigating complaints and crimes, enforcing traffic laws, serving civil and criminal process as well as other papers as required by the courts, and handling special assignments as needed.

 

Start with a base pay of $25.96 per hour while you complete the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Academy. Upon graduation, you will receive a 5% pay increase. We also offer additional pay incentives for education, military service, prior experience, and fluency in a foreign language, which will be calculated after BLET.

Experienced deputies looking for a lateral move can earn up to $33.56 per hour or $69,594 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

Detention Officer

Start your career as a Detention Officer with WCSO! As a Detention Officer, you will perform essential custodial duties, including the transportation, security, and supervision of inmates at the Wake County Detention Center and the Wake County Public Safety Center. Your responsibilities will range from direct inmate supervision, control desk duties, inmate escorts, K-9 handling, and transportation.

You'll being with a base pay of $25.96 per hour while completing our Detention Officer Certification Course (DOCC). After graduation, you will receive a 5% pay increase. We also offer additional pay incentives for education, military service, prior experience, and fluency in a foreign language, which will be calculated after DOCC.

 

Experiences Detention Officers looking for a lateral move can earn up to $30.98 per hour or $64,439 annually, based on their qualifications and experience.

Nurse Harris

Detention Medical Staff

Explore exciting opportunities as a Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Doctor, or Contractor (Psychiatrist, Dentist, Behavioral Health) with our medical staff. Please check the available positions for current openings.

In these positions, you will be responsible for providing medical care to those in our custody. Your role may include screening individuals, administering medications, treating wounds, preparing medication, and ensuring proper documentation.

Applicants must be a Licensed Registered Nurse with the North Carolina Board of Nursing and have CPR and AED certification. We offer a competitive hiring pay of up to $42 per hour, based upon incentives and experience. ​

Telecommunicator

As a Telecommunicator, you will be the first point of contact for the public during emergency and non-emergency calls. Your role involves deescalating situations, multitasking, and coordinating the necessary services to respond effectively. 

​

New hires with no prior experience, start at a base pay of $22.48 per hour. After completing the Telecommunicator Certification Course, you will receive a 5% pay increase. Additional pay incentives will be calculated after completing training. ​
